Summer Camp Questions

Q: When is the best time to register for a camp?
A: The best time of year to register for a camp is in late May through early July. Teams that register at this time have first priority on selecting their camp dates and times. If you plan on hosting your camp during the month of August, the most popular time for summer camps, you should schedule well in advance to ensure that Spirit Unlimited has staff availability on the specific dates and times that you request.

Q: The Spirit Unlimited summer camp brochure indicates that most camps run from 9:00am to 3:00pm, however, I cannot book a facility for those specific times. Can we adjust the camp times or dates?
A: Yes! Spirit Unlimited camps are customized to suit the needs of your team. You can schedule your camp during the day or in the evening. Spirit Unlimited is available 7 days a week.

Q: What are the benefits of choosing a choreography camp with Spirit Unlimited over having a private choreographer come out to teach a routine to our team?
A: There are several reasons to book choreography with Spirit Unlimited:

  • SU's Choreographers are specially selected for their knowledge, skill, experience and creativity. They are chosen from some of the top collegiate and professional cheerleading and dance teams. They will provide a routine specifically designed for your team.
  • SU choreography camp packages include customized music created especially for your team.
  • SU choreographers not only provide a routine, but they also instruct your team on how to perform new skills and improve their current technique.
  • SU choreography camps include evaluation sessions, individual ribbons, Best Spirit Leader / Dancer / Cheerleader & Dancer USA awards and Citrus Bowl performance opportunities.
  • Unlike most individuals hired to create a routine, Spirit Unlimited's choreographers are highly trained and insured through Spirit Unlimited. You wouldn't want a member of your team to get hurt due to the negligence of someone who has not been professionally trained.

Q: What kind of material is taught at Spirit Unlimited camps?
A: Spirit Unlimited's camp material is customized for all ages and skill levels. Your team can adjust your camp material to meet your needs. You can make your camp an entire day of learning stunts or advanced skills, or you can break up the day with a variety of different classes to include cheers, dances, jumps, leaps and more!

Competition Questions

Q: What is the maximum number of participants allowed to compete on one team?
A: The maximum number of participants will vary according to division. Please check the list of our divisions for specific details.

Q: What is the time limit of the music portion in cheerleading and dance routines?
A: There is no time limit for the music portion of routines for any division, including recreation, school, or all-star. However, the length of the entire routine cannot exceed 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Q: Should music be on a cassette tape or a CD?
A: Music may ONLY be on CD. If music is on a CD, it must be in the CDR (CD-Recordable) format. It cannot be in the CDRW (CD Re-writable) format. Duplicate CDs must be available in case of lost or broken tapes/CDs.

Q: Who is responsible for playing the music during routine?
A: A representative from your team (coach/advisor) must know exactly when to start the music. Only one routine/team's music should be on the CD. The representative with your music should report to the music table one performance before yours. The person responsible for bringing the CD to the music table is also responsible for inserting the CD into the player and pushing play and stop at the proper times during the routine. This person must stay at the music table throughout the team's performance, and at the end of the performance, take the CD away with them. All CD's should be labeled with the name of the school/team and coach/advisor name.

Q: What should I do if I want to register for a competition, but I don't see my division on the list of Spirit Unlimited Divisions?
A: If you don't see your division, please call 1-888-737-2221 to find out how to register your team(s) for any Spirit Unlimited competition.

Q: What is the time limit for individual cheer and dance competitions?
A: The time limit for individual cheer and dance competitions has been extended to 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Q: When is the deadline for submitting payments for competition registration?
A: Final payments for most Spirit Unlimited competitions are due no later than two weeks prior to the competition date (please check registration forms for exact deadlines). A late fee will be added to all payments made after the specified deadline.

Q: When will the performance order for an event be available?
A: The performance order will be available two days prior to the event. Please check our website at www.spiritunlimited.com on that specific event's page. Teams will perform in a random order determined by Spirit Unlimited. You will be able to pick up the most updated performance order at the event registration table.

Q: Will Spirit Unlimited provide spotters during our routine?
A: No... however if a coach does want spotters, they can provide up to 5 spotters (one for each stunt group) from within their own organization. They must be attired differently than the team on the floor and are not to stabilize any stunts/pyramids and are prohibited to verbally coach (see Spirit Unlimited General Guidelines for cheer teams for complete rule). You should remind the SUstaff member prior to the your team entering the floor for their performance.
